Saturday Night Fever
This is the movie that brought disco to mainstream America. John Travolta, Karen Lynn Gorney, and Barry Miller starred in the 1977 smash hit. The movie was about a nineteen year old Brooklyn native named Tony Manero. Tony is stuck in a dead end job and hates his family. His only relief comes on the weekend when he can go to the club and rules the dance floor. He meets Stephanie, a young new girl on the dance scene. Stephanie asks Tony to teach her to disco and get her ready for the big dance competition. The two young people fall in love and Tony tries to find away out of Brooklyn. It showed that even the every man could disco. Before the movie was released, disco was scene as a fringe activity. But after Saturday Night Fever was released, the disco exploded into mainstream America. Soon, disco was in every community, every city and every household in America. People all across the country got down to the groove and came together over this form of music.
