Dance Moves

The Y.M.C.A.:
The most famous of all disco dance moves, it is perhaps one of the most famous dance moves ever. Based on the famous song by The Village people, The Y.M.C.A. has four basic steps. First, when the music gets to the part where they chant Y.M.C.A. throw your hands up to form a Y with you body. Next, when they say M. curl your arm over your head and have your hands touch on the top of the forehead. After the M. comes the C. Now the left arm should become arched over the top of your head while you tuck in your elbow of you right arm and have the right forearm straight out and the right wrist should be pointed towards the left arm. Finally the A is just your arms forming a point over your head. Repeat these steps when ever the song says "Y.M.C.A". If you having a hard time with these steps look at the picture below.

The Hustle.
Not as well known as the Y.M.C.A. but far more important is the Hustle. The Hustle is also based on a famous song; Van McCoy & The Soul Symphony Orchestra's "The Hustle". Points for originality are not awarded. Set to a beat between 100 and 125 beats per minute, this dance can be done with many other songs such as "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees, "Dancing Queen" by ABBA, and "Material Girl" by Madonna. To begin, all dancers must get into a line. Give everyone some room to move. When you first hear the words "Do the Hustle!", everybody takes four steps, starting with the right foot, going toe to heel, toe to heel. After the fourth step, click your right foot against your left. Now, take four steps forward with your left foot starting. On the fourth step, click your left foot against your right. Repeat the back and forth once. Now, we move to the grapevine. the grapevine is a simple four step routine to left that goes right foot behind left foot, left foot in front of right foot and then right foot behind left foot, left foot in front of right foot. On the final step, click your right foot against the left. To go back to the right, the left circles behind the right, then right in front of the left. Repeat once. Finally, comes the turn. Wait two beats then turn 90 degree to the right. Repeat all steps until song is finished.

The Bus Stop: An off shot of the Hustle, all of the steps are the same until you reach the turn. Instead of waiting two beats, have your right foot tap six inches ahead of the standing position and then six inches behind the standing position. All Other Aspects of the Hustle remain the same.

Saturday Night Fever HustleOnce again, all the moves before the turn is the exact same as the Hustle. Now the two beats before the turn will change. Instead of waiting two beats, you will wait twelve beats. First, you do the Travolta point eight times. The Travolta point is where you bring your right arm above your head and then bring it up across your body to the bottom left hand part of your body. Next, do the chicken wing twice. This is where your arms are against you side and then flap your arms. Finally, do the first six moves of Patty-cake. That means clap then extend your right arm out. Bring your arm back in and clap again and then extend your left arm. Now, bring your left arm in and then clap your hands together. The very last part of the patty-cake is to extend both arms then bring them back together. Follow the instructions for the regular Hustle to complete dance moves
