Leisure Suits: This leisure suit is a prime example of what to where at a disco. Made of polyester, a leisure suit came with a lapel, bell bottom pants, and a bright under shirt. The undershirt was bright and colorful and normally comes in an awful pattern. Leisure suits come in every color made. This author has even seen a baby blue leisure suit that was actually worn. Perhaps the most example of leisure suit can be found in Saturday Night Fever. John Travolta's character Tony Manero wears a white leisure suit with black under shirt.
Platform Shoes: This classic disco shoe was the standard. The platform shoe was popular for both men and women on the disco scene. These shoes came in all styles; snake skin, dress, suede, leather. It was believed that the higher the platform the better off you were. I still cannot see how you could dance in those shoes but that's just me.
Qiana Shirts: Usually the undershirt of a leisure suit, the qiana shirt was the staple of disco wear. A qiana shirt could be worn with a leisure suit or just by it self. They normally had a wide collar to go with the wide collar of the leisure suit. Also made of polyester, the qiana shirt came in every color and pattern imaginable. 
Bell Bottom Pants: A crossover from the 1960s, bell bottom pant were needed on the dance floor. The bell bottoms allow people to wear platform shoes without tripping over themselves. Loose in the thigh, tight at the knee, and wide and the foot, bell bottoms were comfortable, cool, and out of sight.
The Afro: This bushy hair style was popular with all races at the discos. The Afro is a result of picking, where someone takes a pick and runs it through their hair. The pick adds volume and air to the hair. Afros are still popular today and becoming more and more in style.
I feel compelled to mention rollerskates at this time. Roller skates did have their part in a subgenre of disco called Roller Disco. The name is self explanitory: disco on skates. It is that simple. If you don't feel like going all out, it is ok to pull out a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a pair of shoes and head out on the dance floor.
